The Queensland Greens have expressed their support for Queensland's state school teachers as the teachers continue their campaign against the Newman Government's attack on their working conditions.
Queensland Greens spokesperson Penny Allman-Payne will join hundreds of teachers as they rally outside Parliament House at 5pm this afternoon to send a clear message to Premier Newman that their working conditions are not for sale.
"The Government's attack on teachers' working conditions amounts to an attack on the learning conditions of the approximately 495,000 students who attend Queensland's public schools" said Ms Allman-Payne.
"For example, one of the conditions in the current agreement that the Government is seeking to remove is class size targets. This must mean that the Government is considering increasing class sizes as another one of its cost cutting measures - if it didn't, there would be absolutely no need to remove this condition. Teachers are rightly concerned about the Government's intentions with regard to Queensland public education.
The Queensland Greens policy for Education fully supports teachers in standing up for their profession and the expectations of parents and their children."
Penny Allman-Payne will be available for comment at the rally.
