About
I became a public servant in Adelaide, working in its various departments from 1969 to 1995 when I relocated to the Sunshine Coast with my wife, Pat. Not long afterwards we decided to start a new venture and began a small business, Law Cleaning Services. Having our own business was a huge learning curve for me and I keenly felt the responsibility that comes with maintaining satisfied customers. I was up for the challenge and thoroughly enjoyed getting our business up and running. Having satisfied clients is a point of pride with Law Cleaning Services and most of our business has come from recommendations from existing clients.
I became a member of Nambour Rotary Club and was introduced to the Children’s Therapy Centre, where I became a member of their committee, first serving as Secretary and then as its President for five years.
I also served as a member of the Nambour Ambulance Committee for three years and the Nambour Lions Homeless Shelter committee for two years. I was also a member of Nambour Lions for three years.
I am currently a Citizen’s Advocate and have been for the last seven years. I have experience in talking to the media to draw attention to a crisis in housing and funding to Dall House, Nambour.
I am a current and active member of Toastmasters International, President of Inside Edge Toastmasters Club and hold an executive position in the Sunshine Coast Toastmasters club.
Becoming active in various charities and community organisations has been personally fulfilling and rewarding and I am proud of my following achievements:
· As President, to secure recurrent funding for the Children’s Therapy Centre with facilitation by Peter Wellington to the Minister. This greatly reduced the ongoing need and high stress of fundraising by me, manager and staff to a more manageable level.
· As a citizen’s advocate to keep and secure permanent housing for my client along with his fellow residents.
· Served as Toastmasters International Area 16 Governor in 2010/2011. Toastmasters is very active in the community, holding Speechcraft and Youth Leadership courses for people and teenagers whose desire is to improve their communication and leadership skills. I regularly volunteer my time to facilitate and organise these groups and hold courses in the community, with unemployed in Water Watch, and in high schools.
· Becoming a volunteer phone counsellor with Lifeline for two years.
For many years I was a staunch Labour Party supporter - Gough Whitlam is still my hero - and then graduated to becoming a member of the Democrat Party when I felt Labor had lost its way. After the Democrats endorsed the GST I embraced The Greens and became a member. I am honoured to be asked to stand as a Greens candidate for the Nicklin Electorate. I believe that my experience as a public servant, small business owner and active member of the community has given me the experience, knowledge and ability to serve the people of Nicklin as their candidate for The Greens party.
