The Queensland Greens called on the Minister for Transport, Mr Scott Emerson, to review the implementation of the state's road sign standards by Transport and Main Roads to improve road safety especially for workers in road construction and repairs.
Greens spokesperson, Dr Jim McDonald, said that the Department operated a Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices but that it was only as good as its daily implementation.
“Signage irregularities can be found throughout Queensland both in permanent speed signs and the placement of signage for road works and other hazards.
“The Greens call upon the Minister to ensure his department is more rigorous in following the standards for road works. Temporary signs are often not taken down in a timely manner, for example.
