The poor uptake of the multi-billion dollar Airport Link Tunnel highlights the need for better public transport for Queenslanders rather than more roads and tunnels, say the Queensland Greens.
“The reluctance of Queenslanders to use the Airport Link Tunnel and the Clem 7 Tunnel proves that both local and state politicians made the wrong decisions in building them,” said Qld Greens Senate candidate, Adam Stone.
“With all the money thrown at these projects Brisbane could instead have made a substantial investment in a state of the art public transport system akin to those in other world cities.”
He said the Brisbane City Council’s Legacy Way would also become ‘an expensive white elephant’ and the tunnels had done little to ease traffic congestion.
