The Queensland Greens have echoed today’s call by the Electrical Trades Union for a straight answer from Campbell Newman on his plans for the State’s publicly-owned assets.

‘The ALP cruised through the last State election without a whisper of their privatisation plans, only to breach public trust by selling our assets off afterwards’ said Greens candidate for Mt Coot-tha, Adam Stone.

‘Campbell Newman’s LNP should not be permitted to do the same.’

‘And while he’s at it, an unambiguous answer on uranium mining in Queensland wouldn’t go astray.  Last November’s “we have no plans for uranium mines in Queensland at this time” admits the possibility that the LNP may develop such plans after securing government.’

‘Mr Newman, failure to be straight with the community about your plans for Queensland demonstrates a fundamental disregard for the public and for the democratic process.  We are entitled to know what we are voting for.’

‘The Greens are committed to retaining essential public services in public ownership to be run in the public interest.  We can also unequivocally guarantee our unwavering opposition to uranium mining and our staunch commitment to honesty and transparency in politics.’
