State spokesperson for the Queensland Greens, Libby Connors, said that the Greens were not surprised at the split in ministerial ranks over the release of school audit results.
"The obsession with measuring and ranking is the antithesis of the stress-free but stimulating environment required for learning.
"That is true for children and it is true for teachers.
"This obsession which was originally imported from the marketplace into our educational institutions at all levels by the Howard Government has now been incorporated by the Bligh Government.
"Ministers should be listening to parents and teachers who understand the harm it does to our children.
"You can say you are measuring the schools but negative reporting impacts on the children enrolled at those schools who can interpret their school's rank personally."
"The Queensland Greens state that they are happy to give public endorsement to the Queensland Teachers' Union over the issue.
"Teachers have made it clear that they recognise the need for accountability.
"The problem is that league tables do not do justice to the holistic development that is the mark of quality children's education.
"Educationalists established long ago that an obsession with measuring and testing simply produced students who are good at passing tests not rounded individuals with the critical awareness essential to lifelong learning and personal development."
The Queensland Greens education policy focuses on greater support for teachers especially at first year, an improvement in teacher-student ratios and greater support for low income families.
