What part of representative democracy does Minister Pitt not understand?
The Queensland Greens say that the response by Minister for Transport, Warren Pitt to RACQ's criticism of the proposed Hale Street Bridge is arrogant and a symptom of why the Bligh government is struggling in the polls against the newly formed Liberal National Party.
Mr Pitt was quoted in media reports stating that he would not refuse tolling powers to Brisbane City Council 'just because some people believe the project should not be built or should be toll-free'.
Greens spokesperson Libby Connors said given that the people of West End do not want this bridge which will destroy their suburb and cause harm to students at Brisbane State High School, it is the minister's responsibility to listen to the very real concern of residents and voters.
When those very real concerns are added to transport expert views that the bridge is unlikely to ease peak hour congestion, it is time the minister started listening to the people who will be most affected by this ill-thought out project.
"These remarks from Warren Pitt reflect why the voters are likely to throw out the Labor government at the next election," Dr Connors said.
"The Bligh government and ministers like Warren Pitt combine a compete lack of vision with an inability to listen to anyone except vested interests."
