Matthew Gray
Think: global warming, the threat of nuclear weapons,
reactors and radioactive pollution, the end of cheap oil, declining
ecosystem health and loss of biodiversity.
Imagine: food that is safe to eat, sustainable agriculture and liveable cities, clean water, true democracy, health care and education for all, justice independent of wealth or social status.
These are issues that other parties have failed to address, or made worse. These are issues that only the Greens are taking seriously.
Dr Matthew Gray was born in 1970 in the Hunter Valley, the heart of NSW coal country. After living in Armidale, NSW where he studied and worked at the University of New England, he settled on the Sunshine Coast in 2003 to be closer to his wife's family. As a father of three young children he knows how important family is, and is committed to our children's future.
It is that commitment that motivates him to be involved with the Greens: "They are the only party in Australia that is truly committed to the future", says Dr Gray.
To be truly effective our elected Federal representatives must be able to fully come to terms with all these issues. Matthew has been researching and teaching in these areas for the past fifteen years and currently teaches in sustainability at QUT. He is also down-to-earth and approachable, and practices what he preaches, be it buying locally, conserving water, or travelling on public transport.
Matthew is forever expanding his comfort zone, and over the past year he has taken on three new challenges:
- being an advocate for sustainable transport at the Queensland Conservation Council, Queensland's peak environmental organisation
- being an Al Gore-trained climate change messenger, presenting the message of the reality and impact of climate change to communities across south east Queensland and north east NSW
- being the Greens candidate for the seat of Fisher, where he can apply his experience to be the most effective representative the electorate has ever had, and help them to create a prosperous and sustainable future
The future is not a place that we are going, it is something we are creating. And I believe The Future is Green.
