About
I am an Industrial Design engineer and Aged Carer by training, worked for 10 years as administrator in a revegetation business and I am currently a professional musician. I have also worked as office manager and fundraising coordinator for Oxfam/Community Aid Abroad.
I trained as a Crisis Line telephone counsellor and have been on the management of several community groups including the NT Environment Centre.
Development, jobs and a good economy need not cost us our natural amenities. There is neither economy nor comfort without a sound environment. Political will is the missing ingredient. The Greens are the only party with the policies to move Queensland safely into a new progressive phase that is not dependant on the indecent rush on our natural resources.
The Pumicestone electorate is included within one of the fastest-growing populations in Australia and we are building houses on more and more marginal land, and clearing it for human use. We have just suffered some of the worst flood damage in 40 years, yet this government is not changing its ideas about housing developments on low-lying, acid-sulphate soils next to important, flood-prone river systems.
Having a Green or two in Parliament will ensure YOU get what you need – a functioning environment that you are proud to leave to your children. Neither of the Old Parties will give you that.
My commitment is to social equity, a healthy environment for the future and a resilient, diverse economy. I work constructively and creatively to meet these goals in my life and my community.
Policies
I support:
- Immediate protection of Pumicestone Passage from acid run-off from soil disruption within the catchment
- Better and cheaper public transport with an investigation into why Qld has one of the least affordable systems in the world
- Dedicated bike lanes wherever possible
- A focus on preventative health care promotion with timely access to high quality Medical care
- An immediate moratorium on Coal Seam Gas extraction
- Renewable energy forming a sustainable base for economic activity and increased employment
- Making our economy resilient through diversity
- Sustainable fishing practices and protection for important fish hatchery zones
- Food security by protecting soil and farmland
- Encouragement of local and neighbourhood growing of food
- Principled and accountable government – difficult in Qld’s single-layered government with no house of review.
My key issues in Pumicestone are:
- Affordable, timely and relevant Public Transport;
- employment, community engagement and training for local youth;
- equitable and affordable Healthcare, dental and aged care, with a vibrant preventative healthcare program raising life quality;
- Protection of farmland and scarce native vegetation;
- accountable government;
- community-centred development and affordable, low-energy housing for mixed incomes and life needs;
- safe-guarding clean water, air and food security.
