About
I was born and raised in the Queensland country district of Wide Bay, living in Maryborough and then Bauple and attending a State School at Maryborough. I was awarded a scholarship in Year 11 to attend the Australian Defence Force Academy on Graduation and become an Officer in the Australian Regular Army. I spent nine years in the military and left with the rank of Captain. During my training I completed a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Chemistry and Geography. After the military I was employed as an Operations Manager on the waterfront with Patrick Stevedores. I ran my own Consultancy business for six years concentrating on IT, Construction and Operational projects in logistics. I am now in a State Management role in Brisbane.
I include my background because it shows a varied but fairly conservative history. My views on business and industrial issues have been moulded in one of the most volatile areas of Industrial Relations in Australia.
I am 42 years old and have been married for 21 years and have two teenage children. I play Rugby for the Redland Mud crabs over 35’s Club. I enjoy working around our property on the weekend and being with my family.
From this background also comes a great affection for people from all walks of life. It is my deep concerns about ecological and social justice issues that has precipitated my entry into politics. I studied all major parties and found, to my surprise, that the Greens had the best people and planet policies. The policies on Education, Health, Sustainability and Transport are the ones I am most passionate about. I fully support all other policies of this party.
My aim is to show my electorate of Cleveland that the Greens are a multi-policy party with real solutions to the big challenges. The very real threat of Global Warming has been a policy of the Greens since 1996 and is only now being accepted by the major parties. Time has proven that the policies of this party have been from on the right track for a very long time in spite of the rhetoric of the other political parties. We need to start listening to our heads and our hearts and not to the words coming out of parties strongly backed by influential lobby groups.
Why am I standing for the Greens in the Cleveland electorate?
“I am standing in the seat of Cleveland to allow you to express clearly what you want your community to look like in the future. I believe that the Greens vision for the future is not only well planned and caters for the wellbeing of the residents and the environment, but that it is also very achievable. A criticism of the Greens has always been that our vision is unrealistic. This criticism comes from people with a vested interest in keeping things the same. The mining sector, the old political parties, paper mills and petroleum industries have spent millions of dollars spreading this negative message. I am here to tell you that the Greens vision for the future is achievable – and that with your help we can turn it into reality.
“The Greens offer consistent positive policies backed up with real solutions for renewable energy, sustainable building practices, green industries, public transport, health initiatives and education with responsible mining. We now have the technology to transform Australia into a leader in sustainable living instead of being the world’s quarry. “
Brad Scott has lived in various parts of the Redlands including Wellington Point, Redland Bay and Mt Cotton. He has also lived in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Wallangarra. Brad does not believe that the unique beauty of the Redlands – or any part of Australia – should be jeopardised in pursuit of constant growth. He believes that the issues of the use of Natural Resources (Coal Seam Gas and water in particular) and population growth and Climate Change, should at the top on the state agenda. Locally, the issues of Sustainable Development and Public Transport need serious attention.
