About
Frida Forsberg is an experienced campaigner against mining on prime agricultural land and will make protecting productive farmland and water resources the centerpiece of her campaign in Toowoomba North.
A resident of Toowoomba for over a year, Frida comes from the small town of Kilcoy where she works as a graphic designer for a gardening magazine. Prompted to enter politics by the government’s repeated failure to act on coal and coal seam gas mining on agricultural land, she is committed to fighting for small communities and protecting economic diversity and sustainability in regional areas.
Frida was the lone political voice to speak out against the proposed open cut coal mine on the beautiful Kunioon farmlands near Kingaroy during the 2009 Queensland state election.
Since then she has continued to campaign to protect productive farm land, endangered ecosystems and water resources from the big mining interests.
Policies
Toowoomba North is a diverse electorate which includes the bustling regional centre of Toowoomba, the rich, food and fibre-producing farmland of the Darling Downs and important recharge areas of the Great Artesian Basin.
The Greens in Toowoomba will be a mature voice for:
- stopping the reckless expansion of coal and coal seam gas mining in farming communities
- better management of water resources
- efficient, affordable public transport
- better access to public health care and aged care
- better funding for public education
- job creation in clean energy such as wind and solar
