About
Andy Grodecki has served the Beaudesert, Boonah and Jimboomba communities for over twenty years. Andy is a science communicator and before this owned a private electronics business for 11 years. He has a proven track record in serving the local community as the president or board member of more than eight community groups in the district such as Jimboomba’s Caddies and catchment, public art and conservation groups. Andy lives in Mulunjali country on a ‘Land for Wildlife’ bush block just north of Beaudesert.
“I know most people in country Logan and the Scenic Rim want their lifestyle and the environment protected with a thriving local economy”, Andy says. “Our community and all of Queensland is at a crossroads. Do we choose the path of a sustainable economy for country Logan and the Scenic Rim or the downward spiral of industrialisation and urbanisation offered by the other major parties? I know the voters of the Beaudesert electorate want local jobs based on clean, green businesses such as ecotourism and farming. They want our local business centres connected by good roads and a regular public transport system. We need to build a regular affordable local public transport system, as offered by the Greens, that meets the particular needs of our semi-rural communities.
“Despite the statements by their candidates, the other major parties are offering coal and coal seam gas mines throughout the Beaudesert electorate. They are offering no increase in public transport. They are offering toxic industrialisation of the good quality agricultural land of the Logan Valley and fast-tracked poorly-planned satellite cities. With this, the other major parties are offering further decline in our failing river system, the planned extinction of wildlife and toxic and noxious industry that all threaten our wellbeing and lifestyle”, Andy said.
“We need sound and well funded public health and education systems. It is time that the electorate had someone who knows and understands the local issues and is offering a sustainable way forward.”
“The 2010-2011 floods have cost Queensland over $16 billion. Unfortunately, as the change in our climate accelerates, we will be facing similar devastating floods and storms more often. The next Queensland Government needs to get serious on Queensland’s contribution to climate change with a planned withdrawal from coal and coal seam gas. We need major investment in public transport for those most affected by ever increasing fuel costs from the worldwide decline in oil production. We must reorganise our economy by investing now in a new green economy.”
“The old parties are not even talking the same language. They are committed to doubling our coal exports and the establishment of a massive coal seam gas industry with multi-billion dollar spending on infrastructure that will be largely redundant in 20 years. We cannot afford to invest in sunset industries, we cannot afford the unsustainable path offered by both the Liberal National and Labor Parties.
“The Greens, with the balance of power, will redirect the massive investments currently being made into coal, coal seam gas expansion and eight lane highways into a job rich, green economy developing renewable energy, public transport and adequate funding for essential local community services such as the Beaudesert Hospital and our public schools. With such stark alternatives it is easy to break the habit of a lifetime and vote for me” says Andy Grodecki.
