Candidate South Brisbane
I live at Highgate Hill with my partner Gary and two teenage children. I am a conservationist, a soccer mum, a rowing mum, a neighbor, a daughter, an organizer at school fundraisers and someone who strongly supports a safe, walkable friendly community for all our families.
With friends, I have devoted countless hours of volunteer time speaking out against the now evident impacts of excessive development proposed in the draft West End and Gabba local plan (2004) and against the divisive Hale Street Bridge. I was a founding committee member of the West End Community Association created in response to excessive development.
Planning and environmental law is my area of legal practice. For 18 years I have directed a non-profit community legal centre that helps people with advice on planning, pollution, nature conservation, mining and gas, all from a public interest perspective. Through my work I have learnt about climate change science and the urgent need to stop expansion of Queensland’s coal and gas exports.
Despite its development problems, the Southside is still a wonderful bunch of communities. Together, let us work to keep our communities strong.
