About
Ray has been an ardent conservationist for many years and has belonged to many conservation groups as a member or supporter such as the Friends of the Earth, the Westernport Planning Group in his earlier days. He remains a member or supporter of the ACF, WSPA, the Victorian Wildlife rescue, Wilderness Society and Koala foundation and makes regular donations. He helped set up a conservation group called LEAP (Logan Environment and Protection). His love of the natural world is a strong part of his belief system and is a core reason for his decision to stand for the seat of Waterford.
Ray joined the Greens as they were the only political party prepared to fight and cut through the confusion around the biggest debate the world needs to have. The average person needs unbiased information to make informed judgement on such monumental issues as climate change and the decimation of the world’s eco-systems, one had to stand up and speak a clear, intelligent, truthful and factual argument to the people and inside the parliament. The Greens are that party doing this.
Ray is 62 years old and lives with his beloved two dogs in Loganlea and wishes to make known the serious environmental problems facing the world as the population soars and the bushland shrinks with the loss of so many iconic species both in the world and in the Logan area. The Koala decline is most distressing and believes the government has abdicated responsibility for the preservation of our natural heritage to developers who continue to decimate the iconic and under - appreciated tall old growth forest that has quickly disappeared in the 10 years Ray has lived in Logan.
Policies
Ray believes that development in Logan has to be curtailed until a full environmental impact assessment of all major developments is undertaken to stop the completer loss of all habitat in the Logan area, this must entail:
Stopping and redirecting sub-divisions in the Urban Footprint zone that is destroying irreplaceable virgin bush into alternate areas so as to continue the housing push but into such areas as grazing land already cleared away from our remnant bushland.
There is need for the complete rethink of the Park Ridge Connector (PRC) route away from the bushland around Berrinba and down the line near Chambers Flat parkland to the south, existing road reservations should be followed and housing resumed only by using a LESS intrusive plan with existing roads and more public transport.
The “business as usual” approach by Logan council, the Labor State government and no doubt from the LNP has to end and full meaningful environmental legislation must be instigated to make the destruction of the natural environment a thing of the past and the First thing to be considered and protected by any development.
The parliament must get control of the development of this state away from rich and large corporations and multinationals that seem to have a no- holds barred approach to development in this state with politicians playing along, the Greens will be seen as a voice for the people and future generations.
Ray upholds and endorses the Greens agenda on the issues that affect many people such as upgrades to public transport, health system reforms and funding among many other necessary reforms that are neglected by the other parties.
